Bloor-Yorkville has a long history with artists of all sorts, whether poets, musicians, or writers and of course, artists in the beauty industry! Paul Pecorella made Bloor-Yorkville his home for his namesake salon for over 40 years, experiencing the many changes in the community along the way!

Born in Pachino, Sicily, Paul Pecorella studied his beloved craft in Rome and Milan before coming to Canada in 1964. On his arrival he obtained a prestigious position as “master cutter” at the famous Gus Caruso Salon on Bloor Street.

A few short years later, Paul opened the doors to his own salon on Cumberland Street and was dedicated to training and uplifting the next generation of stylists. Working alongside his wife Barbara, the two of them were a cut and colour duo, known throughout the community for their support of other small businesses.

They were also dedicated to charity work, volunteering “cut-o-thons” to groups benefiting Parkinson’s Disease, children’s charities and more. Throughout the years, Paul worked with a number of celebrities including Jane Russell, Rachel Ward and Paul Michael Glaser.

While Paul Pecorella recently passed, his family is continuing his legacy by maintaining a salon that is family-owned with a warm and welcoming environment. Paul was known for his caring and generous persona, and the salon strives to continue that legacy. The salon has recently relocated to a pop-up location at 1240 Bay Street. Please keep an eye on their website for more information regarding their new location.

On behalf of the BY-BIA, we’d like to congratulate the salon and the Pecorella family on their many successful decades in the Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood.
