Heliconian Club IWD
The Drama Section of The Heliconian Club is proud to support the 2026 United Nations International Women’s Day theme “Give to Gain” by celebrating Amina Mohamed and Cameras For Girls (a Canadian, global organization) with a mission to advocate for young African women to get jobs in male-dominated media spaces by overcoming gender inequality and poverty one camera at a time. Come hear Amina’s empowering story and view a powerful gallery of art created by Cameras For Girls students.
Intrinsic to the event is the powerful African Drumming of Joe Bowden. Joe is performing in the National Arts Centre’s Ottawa presentation of Suzie Wilde’s After the Rain and has graciously agreed to perform for this momentous celebration of Amina Mohamed’s advocacy. After our event, Joe starts rehearsals at Soulpepper for Detroit: Music of the Motor City.
