Join us for the first-ever Heliconian Club Celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), on March 8th!
On March 8th, 1908, women workers in the needle trades marched through New York City’s Lower East Side, demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. IWD is now celebrated annually around the world on this date.
So join us in the festivities of the first-ever Heliconian Club’s celebration of IWD. It will take place in the Hall. Doors open at 6:00pm for socializing and refreshments and events start at 6:45 pm. We are honoured to have as our guest presenter, the Toronto Poet Laureate – Lillian Allen – winner of many awards, including two Juno Awards. She will be joined by Kate Kelly, who is a Peterborough based spoken word artist, musician and author.
Following an intermission, we will be showing an inspiring documentary film, curated specifically for International Women’s Day events across the world, of amazing women who break all sorts of barriers and records.
There will be complimentary appetizers, as well as treat bags with goodies to munch on during the film. For this event only, there will be a special bar pricing of $5.00 per glass of wine or beer. There will also be a lucky draw!
Ticket prices: $20 for members and students with I.D.; $25 for members of other Arts Clubs [with membership card]; $30 general public.
