In the late 1980’s he started playing and recording Rock music in various local bands-including touring with and opening for bands such as I Mother Earth & Jeff Healey. Passionate to grow as a musician he started experimenting with Gamelan guitar playing inspired by Robert Fripp & Adrian Belew from the legendary band King Crimson. Later, Juan fell in love with Flamenco and started studying Flamenco guitar under the tutelage of Miguel de la Bastide in 1997. This training allowed him to tour with Jesse Cook across the USA.
