Our Urban Mobility and Safety Committee has been instrumental in making several public safety improvements, including: installation of a pedestrian crosswalk on Bloor Street between Bay Steet and Avenue Road, improvements for vehicle and safe pedestrian flow at Bay and Cumberland intersection, improved parking and commercial loading times and removal of pedestrian scramble at Bay & Bloor, which created severe traffic problems, as it was combined with another pedestrian scramble at the very next intersection of Yonge & Bloor.
Our BIA successfully advocated for the return of the Neighbourhood Community Officer (NCO) program to the area, helping to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. We also contract a team from Safe House Community Wellness, who are trained in de-escalation techniques, to assist our business members who may be facing difficult or dangerous situations with members of the public. Our Community Engagement team is available to our members by phone or text message from 8 am – 12am.
