A) Art Installation by Jordan Sook presented by Yorkville Village
Location: Yorkville Village Atrium – 55 Avenue Road
Curated by Jordan Claire Arnold and Emily Croning.
Jordan Sook is a local, emerging talent who recontextualizes public spaces through site-specific installations. The artist created a life-size tree in the centre of the atrium constructed out of clothes that are destined for the landfills. The installation replicates the natural environment of the Canadian wooded landscape as it transforms the atrium in Yorkville Village into an immersive experience. A forty-foot Red Oak tree made up of recycled clothing will be a powerful structure in the centre of the atrium. It will reach up to the skylight, offering a unique visual experience from both floors of the atrium. The intentional use of recycled clothing within a shopping centre speaks to motifs of human consumption, fast fashion, and our interaction with the environment around us.
